Barefoot Running

After my 5th session, I am fast becoming a believer in barefoot running. Yesterday I ran 2 hours on the treadmill in bare (socked) feet. I tracked my pulse during the run. It ranged from 5 to 8% slower than when I ran in my usual shoes. As well, I was able maintain correct posture much easier and at the end of 2 hours my lower back was not sore, my knee was not swollen and my legs were were much fresher. Now to many my next comment may be almost laughable but … I was able to run 6.4 miles in the second hour (my usual 10 km time is about 62 minutes) or about 6 minutes faster.

I have been trying to correct my posture to imitate a more natural “Chi” style. Hips forward, feet pointed straight ahead, chest out, head up and leaning slightly forward. While I found it almost impossible to maintain a Chi Posture in shoes, it came very naturally this session. Today I’m going out and buying a new set of shoes without all of the cushioning. I’ve re-joined the “Tech Shop” running group in preparation for Victoria and have a 25 km run scheduled for tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes.
