Coming Out of Hiding!
Hi everyone;
It’s been a long while since my last entry in September when I was suffering from bleeding feet and a bruised ego.
Since then I’ve moved to Victoria. I have to say that it is a lot easier to suffer through +10C than the –20C and blowing snow that I’d be dealing with in Calgary.
For those of you that saw pictures of my feet last September, they healed very well. I was off running for about 6 weeks which means (for me) that I took another 2 months to establish a consistent routine. Fortunately the Y is just 4 or 5 blocks from our new home so distance from the gym can’t be an excuse. They also have a nice 25M pool which is very handy.
I finished setting up my race schedule for the year. It is 2 sprints (UBC and Sooke), 2 ½’s (Shawnigan Lake and Great white North) and 2 Ironman Races (Penticton and Arizona in November). I’ve been trying to establish a rigorous training routine but seem to stall out at 6 hours or so. Hopefully this will increase when spring brings the bikes outside. Speaking of bikes – I blew the wad on a new Cervelo P2C and Zipp 404’s. I’ve only had the bike out once but if that was any indication, I’m hoping to take 30 minutes or more off my previous ½ Ironman bike times.
As usual, I’m expecting swimming will be my nemesis. I’m swimming 3 times a week with the Y Tri Club so my conditioning has to improve even if my technique doesn’t. Grant, if you’re reading this, my stroke count has gone through the roof. I sure could use your coaching! By the way, my swim class times are 6:00AM on Monday and Wednesday and 8:30AM on Saturdays. I can’t believe that I’m that committed!?!
Enough for today. On my next blog I’ll let you know how my running is coming along.
Talk to you soon;
Bill
