Saturday Ride

Another wonderful day in Victoria. I woke up at 4:00 to the sound of a heavy rain and wondered if we would be out today. But, true to form along with sunrise came the sun! I marvel at this city; it seems to rain at night and be beautiful most of the day. I think that I’m going to start calling it “Sunny Victoria”. Just think, if we were still in Calgary, I would have spent this morning scraping ice ruts in our driveway instead of riding.
And .. The ride went great; out past Matticks farm and back with a stop for some of the good stuff. I had the Cream Cheese and Blueberry Scone. It was great! My only complaint … That Bob, our ride leader, got a bigger scone than I did!*@#?! I finished off the ride with an extra 15 km along Dallas Road to condition myself to riding in the wind. Total Distance: 75 Km in a leisurely 3.5 hours. My total training time for the week - just over 10 hours. This is starting to impress even me.
Interestingly, I jumped on the scale after the ride to see how much weight I had lost (us older ‘big boned’ gentlemen tend to do that sort of thing) and I was 2 lbs. heavier than Thursday. Cheryl and I did go out for a great meal and a very nice bottle of Pinot at Cafe Brio last night but (in my mind anyway) there should be absolutely no way that a 3.5-hour ride shouldn’t be rewarded with at least a half lb. loss.
We are having friends over for dinner tonight so I’ll probably be up another couple of pounds on Monday. I can remember when I could eat 3 Dog ‘n Suds triple high burgers along with a milk shake or two during a shift and never put on a pound. It is a P___ Off getting older! For those of you younger than me, the Dog ‘n Suds used to be a drive- in restaurant chain. It had great food and while I was going to college, a great hamburger chef (would you believe hamburger flipper)
Enough babbling for today.
Talk to you soon
