Day Before Sore Body Blues

Before talking to my good wife Cheryl this morning, I was sure that I was the only person that developed a bad case of sore body the day before a race. Once again this morning I woke up sore all over; sore knees, calves and feet, lower back and shoulders. Even my head hurt this morning (Now that may have been the result of hogging the biggest part of a nice bottle of Vallapolicella last evening.) The old leeries and doubts have started to set in as I began to look for excuses for the next day. Fortunately my frugality (Some have been known to call me cheap) will keep me from walking away from my Race Fees. As a result, I have managed to finish every race that I have started or even entered. There is nothing better than a large dose of German Mennonite Prairie upbringing to ensure that a penny spent will not be wasted.
Back to Cheryl; I was complaining as usual this morning when she mentioned that she also has aches and pains the day before a race – something about anticipation pains and that it was body’s way of letting us know that we still have time to back out of the race. She also mentioned in her own subtle way, that the sore head was just God’s way of getting even with a wine hog!!! Dahhhh ….. I just learned something (again); I am not the only person in the world to suffer regrets prior to a race. I’m just the only person in the world not to talk to people about them. At least this problem isn’t as potentially dangerous as my secret 185 heart rate spike that I had talked about a week or two ago. I guess that I should start to do a very non-Bill thing and talk about some of these things.
Funny thing – After writing about this, all of my pains seem to be disappearing – All except my head pain that is!
Wish me luck tomorrow;
Bill
