5:30 AM always comes early for me. Especially this week when I remember that 5:30 AM was 4:30 AM only 2 days ago. I can’t imagine living further out where I have more than a 5minute drive to the pool. There is one poor lady who used to swim with us that got up at 4:00 to make it to our 6:00 swim. Now that’s dedication! I almost rewarded myself with a day off this morning by rationalizing that I had been in a race yesterday. It’s a good thing I never listen to the boss. (Except of course, if the boss is named Cheryl) I had a great swim and felt wonderful afterwards. To think I would have missed a great start to the day just by rolling over one more time!
Any way, the swim went well. I felt great and rested except for the flutter board when I could feel that my legs were more tired than usual. I managed to get in 1950 metres.
Cheryl and I were talking before her swim lesson this evening when I mentioned I usually pass the time while swimming thinking about other things. (Not that swimming repetitive laps is boring or anything) Yesterday, during the swim portion of the sprint, I noticed that I wasn’t getting water up my nose any more. I guess, more by coincidence, I realized that I am now unconsciously closing off the back of my throat & nostrils (similar to that back of mouth pressure that you sense when you have a gag reflex) and this has stopped me from swallowing water like I used to. The next sentence may contain too much info:Two years ago I would swallow enough water to require me to run to the washroom up to 2 or 3 times during a 1hour swim. Today I never have that problem. I guess this means that I am learning how to swim properly! Now this has me thinking …….. I sure hope everyone takes his or her pool breaks out of the pool. Hummm??
Talk to you soon;
Bill
