Monday Blues

I’m not sure if the cause is over training, diet, old age, illness or plain old laziness but I have been tired as H_ _ _ _ the past few days. I find myself having trouble sleeping at night and needing catnaps during the day. (Which is where I’m going as soon as I am finished this blog!)
Saturday’s bike ride went well. Just Bob and myself; He had his Scott Tri Bike so it was a quick ride out to Matticks Farm and back, 53 Km in 2 hours. Avg Speed: 26.5 KPH, up from about the 20 or 21 KPH a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, my heart rate was up too. Bob showed me a new (for me) standing hill climb technique where you sway the bike side to side with each stroke. Using those “other” leg muscles sure made the climbs easier. (I had always thought that bikers doing this were just tired) Thanks Bob - You have probably taken another 2 or 3 minutes off of my 1/2 Iron Bike Time! He also tells me that it takes a rider 6 years to reach their prime so I have another 4.5 years of improvement to look forward to.
The bike did not fair as well as I did. I had to take it apart to get it into the car last weekend and everything seems to be misaligned. I guess that it is back to Fort Cycle for another tune up. Another expensive lesson for the boy! I sure wish that I could learn by watching other people’s mistakes. I’ll be picking up my zipps this week so, maybe??, I’ll be able to get a little work done for free hen I buy the tires to go with them.
Monday workout was a drag: 2100M in the pool, 40 minutes of weights and 30 minutes of cross training on the elliptical trainer - tiring all the way! As I mentioned at the start, I will have to change something about my diet or routine if I expect to get in the 15 to 20 hours of training per week that I’ll need to do a comfortable Ironman. My training goal for the week - 12 hours - do or die!
Talk to you soon;
Bill
