I managed 2.5 hours of training in the pool and at the gym today. I have started strength training to improve swimming and (fingers crossed) keep up with the swimmers in the club. It seems to be working. My timed 400’s averaged 2m30s per 100, down from 3 minutes last week. I have a long way to go but I’m hoping that my swim style (I single kick per stroke as compared to 4/stroke) will keep me close to the pack when we hit Thetis Lake in our wet suits in May.
I have also started quad strengthening to improve running. I have noticed that my left aqua sock has been wearing quite a bit faster than the right one. I’m no expert but I think this means I am doing a lot more work with my left leg. This has been the case ever since I had reconstructive surgery on the right knee 4 years ago. Prior to that, my right leg was stronger. Soooo.. I’m will be concentrating on strengthening my right quad in hopes that I’ll become a more balanced runner. I’m thinking that could be why the sole of my right foot is getting bruised when I run barefoot. I’ll let you know.
Talk to you soon;
Bill
