BEER MILE DISECTED

Sorry for the delay in getting this out and NO – I’m not just now recovered from the race. A good Saskatchewan boy is always up for a few beers, running or sitting!
I have never enjoyed 11.75 minutes so much. I was surprised at how nervous I was going into the race with expectations of upchucking in the corners and finishing an embarrassing last. I arrived in time to do one practice lap and set up my beer. Lindz and Pano arrived at their usual “nik of time” with Lindz rushing to get her beer out and Pano warming up his camera. I chugged my first beer and headed out well ahead of Lindz and Don but my body was never able to cash the cheques that my mouth writes so they both zoomed past going into the first corner. This will go down as the noisiest race I’ve run with burping and puking going on in every corner. The track was quite dark but it was easy to follow the belches of the front runners. My second beer didn’t go down quite as fast but I was still impressed at my speed compared to many of the young bucks. The third and fourth beers and laps were a bit more of an ordeal but still a lot more fun than mile 20 of a marathon. The evening ended at home with Lindz, Pano and Cheryl, 9 dead cans of my favourite beverage and a promise from Pano that he would enter next year’s race. As for Lindz, she is a pretty good runner but I was disappointed in her ability imbibe.
My goal for next year – 9:59 so I will have to practice some running too!
My recommendation: That everyone should do at least one of these races. You can find locations at beermile.com
