O’Cal’s 10 Miler 1:09:11

My computer at work is still not hooked up. They are having major network problems in the new building and the deadlines I have to meet are looming big time. All I can do is right now is unpack the boxes piled in the storage room…my back is a bit sore from the lifting so I better be careful.
My lesson with Selena was pretty good today. I am getting back into shape. I plan on doing a lot over the weekend.
Tonight’s O’Cal group was small but feisty! Wa-Wa, Kev, Ming, Rui and I waited for Syl for a bout 5 minutes then headed down Chatterton Way…along came Syl just as we made the left on Emily Carr. Paul wanted me to run approach the run a bit differently this week. I was to run at a steady pace all the way to Amblewood and then sub-tempo from there all the way back to Emily Carr and then easy for the last mile or so. I ran with Syl and Wa-Wa- at a very easy pace (my legs were pretty stiff from Tuesday’s track wo and yesterday’s plyo session) to what we thought was a street that we needed to turn on that would connect us to Amblewood but instead we found ourselves climbing a very steep Hillwood St…I think it was Hillwood…all I know is that it definitely had a “Hill” in the name…ouch. This did eventually hook us up to Amblewood but we found ourselves in front of Kev who took the right route. We turned around and picked him up and then the three of us did a very solid pace around the top and back down to Emily Carr (we lost Syl and Rui at this point and Ming did a shorter route)…the pace was a bit quick but Kev was feeling good and I didn’t want to be left behind in the dark so I went with him. I was so surprised I was able to run as strongly as I did considering how stiff I felt when I started. Paul has me starting an 8-day cycle this week (which I will maintain for a while) so I will do an easy 35 minute run with some strides, take Saturday off and run Hatley Castle on Sunday…this race will be killer after this past big week…yipee!! Bring it on!

Yes Marilyn, the detour was via Hillwood - we were supposed to keep left on Lochwood but turned right instead, my bad (again!). I think I need to run the course in daylight a couple times and really commit it to memory - my sense of direction is truly pathetic after dark, especially when my brain is in desparate need of oxygen…
Cool blog BTW! See you at Hatley!

No worries! Maybe I should take some responsibilty and learn the route, heh?! Never mind. Hillwood was a short-cut but it was much steeper so we made up for it in effort! My sense of diection is sad too but I think I finally have it down!
Great run at Hatley today!
