Plastic Paddy’s Track WO 1:09:51

The track session tonight was at Oak Bay. OCal had two different wos going. Dave, Eric, Ian and Sean were running 1km, 800m, 600m, 400m while Kev and I did 2 sets of 6 x 300m with 1 lap between reps and 5 mins between the sets. Paul wanted these run controlled which we sort of did…sort of. We started our first set at the start line even though it meant having to run through two turns of the track. We were trying to avoid the wind that was blowing hard along the last 100m stretch. We realized 4 reps in that set that we were stopping at the wrong line adding about a second to our times…ya, ya, well that’s the honest truth but I will post the times we recorded anyway: 55-54-54-54-54-52. We ran the second set starting at the 100m mark so there was no question what line to end at : 52-53-53-54-55-54. The rests between reps was around 55-60″. OCal saw that we were maybe running too hard so he asked us to pull back on the last two…No Problemo! My legs were stiff from the get-go and were tying up a bit in the last few repeats so that was good timing. As we rounded the turn into the last 100m stretch of this set I was thinking What the hell?! The wind was brutal! We were supposed to do a km at 10km race pace but he scratched that part of the wo since we looked a little knackered. My cold is still making me feel a bit draggy on the faster stuff, mind you I always complain of feeling like poo the week before a race so I’ve given up worrying about it….ok, maybe I still worry a bit but I try not to! Ha!
Juice in the meantime ran 8 x 400m. Syl was a Mensch and paced him through and Juice ended up running the reps faster than he thought he could do…excellent!
OCal joined us on the warm-down and as we were running along Willow’s Beach he explained what a Plastic Paddy was. He was labeled a Plastic Paddy even though he was born to Irish parents and represented Ireland at International running events…I feel a nickname coming on for Paul at last!
