Windy Run 41:06

It was nearly 45 minutes into my lesson before I started making some decent sounds. I have to learn to let go which feels to me like I am being lazy and when I feel vulnerable that’s when Selena gets excited by my sound…so lazy and vulnerable…great, that will take me the rest of my life to get a grip on…arg!
Glenn swung by my office today. We debriefed about how things played out in the Sun Run. It was kind of fun to get another runner’s version of the race especially since we ran nearly the entire race together. Our accounts of how we felt and where we ran tough were pretty well the same. He is now going to focus getting down to some base training that he missed this winter and build over the summer to the RVM half-this fall.
I picked up Juice from rehearsal after work. Boob wanted him to run 45 minutes along the TC route with a 20 minute pick-up thrown in so I thought I would do the same and get psyched up by running part of the course. We parked at the petting zoo and ran out to Dallas Rd heading along the same direction the race route will take us this Sunday. When we got to the cemetery we turned around and we were slapped with a wall of wind. Ah yes, I remember this routine from last year’s race. Got to the top of the hill near Clover Point and turned right…yep, an even more penetrating wind which we had to run against all the way to the Breakwater…yes, it’s all coming back to me know…man, last year’s race was a toughie. Chances are, the conditions will be the same AND rain is in the forecast…Yipeeee!!! All you can do is suck it up and stay focused. I gave Juice a few ideas of things to focus on at various spots along the course. I’ll be taking the same cues. We crossed paths with the IRR gang who were also running the course tonight. I caught up to Alan and Deb and tried to catch up a bit with them but had to get back to the car. IRR is having a BBQ after the race so we’ll get to chat more then. My legs felt much better tonight. I did a couple of short pick-ups just to test them, They feel better than last night so with a day off tomorrow and an easy, pre-race run on Saturday, I should be feeling just fine for race day.
I dropped Juice off at a short rehearsal he had to attend and in the meantime, grabbed some groceries at the Market on Yates. I bought some bison sirloin steaks to try out. They were excellent!
I got the latest issue of the Canadian Running Magazine today in the mail and the interview I did is in there about half-marathon training (like I’m an authority!) as well as Finnegan’s write up on the Beer Mile (now THERE’S an authority!). It’s a great mag..not nearly as fluffy (thank gawd) as Runner’s World, the cover of which our Canuck version emulates.

Well I consider you and expert
The Aust version of Runners World is pretty fluffy too and tends to be about a 50% regurgitation of the US version anyway. We have a good Mag shop in melbourne that stocks quite a few overseas running mags, but not Canadian Running, I may have to hassle them for it. My fave at the moment is Running Times, generally pretty meaty and light on the fluff.
Aus is a pretty small market and we only publish 2, Runners World and Run for Your Life, R4YL only comes out 6 times a year but contains zero fluff, I love it.

Hey Em! I think our Canadian mag is pretty good even at this early stage. I hope the editors stick to quality content. It comes out every two months and has some good articles about training and more importantly gives Canadian runners some much needed exposure, epsecially those who are trying to run world-class times and who are making running a full-time career. All that talent and the hard work and sacrifice that it takes to be at the top often goes unnoticed here in Canada.
Running Times is my favorite too! I will have to look for those Aus ones you mentioned.
