The Aspire group met at the UVic track after work today but because there was a high school track meet going on, we had to move the wo to Oak Bay so we ran there as a warm-up. OCal is away this week so we were on our own. Ian, Sean and Little Eric did a session of 300s while Chops and I were given 5 x 1600 off of 90″ and Kev did 5 x 2000m. The 1600s were to be at slightly quicker than 10km race pace so we were aiming for 5:35-5:37/mile. The first three 1600s felt pretty comfy.  I took the first one out and the wind was nasty in the final stretch of each lap. Chops led the next one and I sure felt a difference having a wind-blocker! (Apparently, there is no use trying to draft behind me). I took over for the third and stayed relaxed and up to this point, felt controlled. Going into the 4th however, I could feel I was having to push to keep the rhythm going and decided on lap two that I would not do a fifth 1600. I was tired so there was no point especially with a race coming up this weekend. Chops had to do the fifth on his own…sorry dude! Meanwhile Syl did some 600s pacing off of us here and there…no foot complaints tonight, but a two week break to heal left him feeling a bit blah.

Our times were solid and although I only did four I was satisfied with the effort After running two 10km races back to back, I think I am a bit tired so i’d rather play it safe. Our times tonight were: 5:34-5:35-5:37-5:36. Chops did the last one in 5:30…nice job! I bow to Kev who ran 10kms worth on the track tonight, on a windy night, by his lonesome. What a guy!

Hungry runners drove straight to the Monkey Tree for a bite. Juice joined us too. I ate many yam fries!
