Down Week
Tuesday, April 27, 2010
The week following the Montreal half was spent recovering and trying to fight a cold..not fun. Monday was a day off from running. I ran 60′ on Tuesday and Wednesday and had stiff legs which was to be expected. Thursday, my legs were still feeling pretty flat and I was generally just feeling rough (run-down). Jon was away on vacation so I made the decision to drop the 2 hour run that was scheduled and did 30′ easy in the morning. I had a photo shoot for Boulevard magazine near the breakwater on Dallas Rd that night and made plans to meet up with Matt afterward and do a run along the water. The shoot took about an hour and I did, oh, about 40′ of major bounding so the photographer could get a shot of me in mid-air. I got to see some of the shots and they look very cool but what followed was a brutal 60′ run. The next day the 75/30 double was done on legs that were even more sore and stiff than after the half-marathon! Saturday morning I woke up with a full-blown cold so instead of a wo, I did an easy 45′. Sunday I felt worse and had a 90′ run scheduled. Because we were running while watching the TC 10km , it was a start and stop run. This was probably a good thing as I was feeling really crooked by the end of the day. The cold got worse overnight and by Monday I was a wreck and could barely muster a 75′ run. I had a huge sleep last night and woke up feeling better. I ran 60′ this morning, went home early from work and had a nap and then did 12 x 30″ upslopes. I wasn’t expecting to go past 3 but I actually felt really good so managed all 12 building into a good clip and with spring in my legs even with just a minute rest between efforts. I did these at Cedar Hill and hooked up with the IRR gang for the warm-up and cool-down which was great fun!
We decided against doing the BMO 8km this weekend but the Sun Run the following week is still a go. After that, I get a break and then another build with a fall marathon as the goal!

good luck at the sun run!
