New Challenge Ahead

There are weeks that really suck in running and these past two have quite frankly, sucked. I spent the week before the Sun Run despairing as I fought to find the energy needed to run at all, let alone feel frisky in my wos. I was not recovering fast enough from the cold I caught the week before. As a result, as the race approached, my hope of being able to finish off the season with a PB in the 10km deteriorated to the point where I was at the start-line facing a race wondering if I would even be able to run the entire distance at any speed! Not fun at all. The real disappointment was seeing that a great Canadian women’s field had been assembled this year and I  wasn’t able to even run the first 200m with the pack. I watched helplessly as they pulled away easily, leaving me on my own to battle the urge to stop every couple of kms. I wanted to be up there working with those women! Anyway, no complaints.  I had a very solid season, it was just bad timing with getting sick. All part of the game I suppose.

This past week has been off completely off which is fine with me as Jon had already planned to give me a break after the Sun Run anyway. I start back at it tomorrow and am looking forward to this next training phase heading towards a fall marathon (if all goes well). Jon has scheduled some short, light runs for this week. We have a lot of time to get ready so I might as well get as much recovery as I can and while I can before getting into it. Maybe I’m being naive but I am looking forward to doing a bit more volume that will come with marathon prep. It will be a lot easier to get out now that the weather is getting better. I hope to get back to blogging more regularly again. I just didn’t have much to report!

  1. Hi Marilyn, Sorry you didn’t feel well for the Sun Run. What a great string of races you’ve put together though! It’s been a blast to follow your running, always inspiring. Sounds like the perfect time for some re-energizing before marathon training. Looking forward to reading more about that through the summer!

  2. Sorry to hear things didn’t go so well for you at this year’s Sun Run… :(

I was on the sidelines taking some pictures and it turns out I may have taken a photo of you (somebody mentioned your name on my Flickr stream). Check out my blog and let me know if you want a larger sized copy for yourself. :)

Hope your next race is a great one! ;)
