Steady Progress
Sunday, June 12, 2011
I’m very pleased and grateful at my progress these past few weeks. It’s nice to feel strong again and am seeing gradual improvements week to week which is always encouraging. I try not to look back at what I lost in fitness after being off for 6 months. I had worked so hard to build my fitness over the years. It was somewhat daunting knowing I would have to rebuild almost from scratch. Thankfully, things are settling back. What I feel is most optimistic is that I am recovering really well from all my runs at close to the volume I was holding before I started marathon training last spring. My long run is now up to two hours and it feels like it used to – easy and fun! I did a lighter volume week last week but put in very solid tempo run on Tuesday; 50′ of alternating 5′ (3:55/3:40/km) at the lakes and felt very strong running through 10km in 37:15 and hitting the paces right through to the end. That was a real confidence boost! I have some work to do yet but I am going in the right direction just have to continue to be patient. It’s helpful that I have the summer ahead of me with the cheery weather on my side -always makes training builds easier. I should be able to race a decent fall season including x-country one of my my favorites!!

Your attitude to recovery is inspiring, thank you!

Hey Marilyn,
Glad you are feeling back to your old, speedy self! All is definitely not lost – just takes some time to get back there. Now onwards to more great improvements!

XC -> marathon training in disguise. the cool thing about the body is after its been somewhere, its almost always easier to get it back. your previous years are not wasted. but you know this. your going to do great!
