About Marilyn Arsenault
Marilyn Arsenault is a competitive runner, mentor and coach. Considered a late arrival to the world of competitive long-distance running, she’s since forged the kind of success most lifetime runners can only dream about. She’s proudly represented Canada at the national and international levels and has taken home championship titles on all surfaces: track, road and cross-country. Now in her 40’s, she continues to challenge the record books and to reshape perceptions of what Masters athletes can achieve.
The path to success hasn’t been easy. Ahead of her 2010 marathon debut in Toronto, Marilyn developed a serious staph infection that ended her first shot at the distance and endangered her life. Since then, she’s fought her way back, more determined than ever – she did run a debut marathon in 2012 in 2:42 and the following year, at the age of 45, ran a PB on the same course in 2:40:20. Today, she’s at the top of her athletic game. Her recovery inspired the hugely popular Mindful Strides— Victoria, BC-based coaching and clinics that help recreational and elite runners improve their form. She works with Olympic athletes and national teams and continues to attract Canadian sponsors like Saucony and Mountain Equipment Co-op.
Few would guess this pint-sized “Running Diva” is also a former opera singer with a background in voice performance. Keep an ear out—if you’re lucky, you might catch her belting out the Canadian anthem at a stadium near you.
