West Coast Trail 2012

On Monday morning, July 16th, I’m heading upisland with a Team of MEC co-workers and Seegs for a run through on the West Coast Trail.

We’ve got a 1pm orientation scheduled for the Team at the Pachena Trailhead directly after which we’ll head out on the trail, so hopefully get on it just before 2pm.

Our biggest obstacle will be the Nitinat crossing but our support crew has managed to co-ordinate a private crossing.

From Pachena it’s just over 32km to Nitinat so a very generous estimate would be for that to take us 4½ to 5 hours then it’s another 43km to Gordan River with the harder stuff near the end and I’m not going to hazard a guess as to how long that will take us but I believe a total of 18hrs is solidly do-able, I’m thinking we can get it done quicker though. The Team got the Juan de Fuca Trail done in just under 10 hours including a long stop at Sombrio.  On the books the WCT is 28km longer than the JdF so maybe another 4 to 5 hours if we can keep the same kind of pace going?

The main difference from this time to last for Jen and I is that we’ll be fresh :-) Here’s the post I wrote about the run on it we did a few years ago for Jen’s Vancouver Island Quest:

I’m STOKED and truly can not wait to be on the trail again and enjoy the experience with the MEC Team – this will be the apex of their dedicated months of hard training with Seegs.
