Sporadic Training Efforts

Posted by pricey

Training has been a bit sporadic the last few weeks.  I have been pretty good at getting in some good base training over the weekends, but mid week training has been slack due to an exam last week and some tough Physio training sessions mid week.  I have been enjoying the IMS (dry needle) treatment and feel so much better in my legs after it, I can see how I could almost become addicted to this sort of quick fix for muscle relaxation!

I got in a solid but slow 18k training run with a friend training for her first half marathon last Friday.  It was good to be out on a holiday and running freely without any extra ankle support.  I had a great orphans Easter that day, played some wii and then this wicked drinking game that I managed to stay sober through, mostly due to an early start on Saturday with the Mountain Madness Fanatics running clinc.   I was glad I stayed sober and I was glad I got to run with these guys.  We got in a good 3 hours on the North Shore trails, with a good mix of pace and terrain.  I also had a chance to really open it up on some downhills and also got in some really fast climbing sections.  I really ripped it for a good hour or so and pushed really hard.  It was a bit tough on the lungs but felt really go to be maxing out my HR as I haven’t had the opportunity to for some time.

I also got out for a Tuesday night run at Pacific Spirit Park.  It was a large group and the pace was pretty quick to begin with and only get faster.  It was a good group of fast guys out and I did the best I could to hang on for the ride.  It was a fast 7.5k and I could really feel the lack of speed and tempo work on this one.  Its going to be a fast summer running with these guys and I look forward to it.

I was aiming for a Knee Knacker training run on Wednesday night, but the allure of my Physio and his magic needles was too strong so I needed to rest up after that.  Im feeling in pretty good shape going into the Diez Vista 50k on Saturday, but wont be pushing too much.  Ive been excited for this one for a few days now and am hoping the weather holds out for a fun day in the sun and on the trails, and despite my sporadic training efforts I feel good going into the run on the weekend and really have more of a long run feeling to it than a race feeling.

I guess it is still my infancy at these events that allows for a much more relaxed approach.  I enjoy it that way.
