Thomas Jefferson said, “Travel makes you wiser but less happy.”
M and I spent the last few days talking about what’s next for the family and came to the decision that we need to go overseas to work/live for a minimum of one year - in 2008. Thailand. Malaysia. Nepal.
On the international/running note, here’s what I am thinking. Western States 100 2008 if picked in the lottery. If not then focus on local races (White River being the big focus). Then Comrades in 2009.
Happy or not, we’re going.

One of my favorite places in the world is Bangkok (the polar opposite of Victoria). I love the people, chaos and dirt. Going to Bangkok is like (I haven’t train surfed yet so I am taking a shot here) train surfing. The metaphor only came to me while I was sitting in Ricky’s Coffee House in the Khao San road area a week ago. You’ve seen train surfing on Youtube, and if you haven’t, go have a peek.
Bangkok is moving 200 miles an hour. You wait for the train to come, run like hell to catch up and jump on. (I know this is technically different from actually surfing but hang in here with me) The ride is extremely fast, terrifying and fun, smoke filled, dangerous but strangley safe and overall fully satisfying. You can only ‘do it’ for short periods of time because anything longer than a few weeks and you are begging for mercy.
Victoria is at best ’sleepy’. I am happy to be home.
